Urinary drainage bags are medical devices that collect and store urine from patients who are unable to urinate on their own. The bag is attached to a catheter, which is inserted into the patient's bladder through the urethra or a surgically created opening. The urine flows from the catheter into the bag, which is usually made of plastic and can hold varying amounts of urine depending on the size of the bag. Urinary drainage bags can be disposable or reusable, and come in different designs, such as with or without drainage valves, with leg straps for securing the bag, and with different types of catheter connectors. The bags are commonly used in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and for home health care.
